" Keep Hunza Clean", a slogan known to every body in Hunza remained in news for its unique self help based activities. Hunza Environmental Committee since its inception in 1995 has been very committed to solid waste management (SWM) and environmental education and awareness campaign. Similar to its previous hard busy years, 2007 passed not unique it. Besides SWM and other activities HEC joined hands for campaigning on ‘Drug Free' society, a voice applauded by civil society in the region to contribute towards KADO's vision. Moreover HEC initiated health education and awareness programmes in collaboration of AKHSP and ICH. In this connection HEC organized frequent dialogues and discussions with butcher shop owners, chicken shop owners, political representatives, government officials and social activists.

On the occasion of environment day 2007, HEC organized speech and art competitions, rallies and walks and talk shows on local TV network.

HEC showed under performance against set targets financially i.e. Rs.562, 812 (target) and received Rs.497, 655 which include Rs.15, 000 received as outstanding from 2006, hence a net under recital of Rs.80, 157. Reasons for under performance are i) shortage of garbage bins whereas old bins are not usable ii) Murtazabad with a consumer number of 46 was dropped because of non payments from users.
