In July 2006 Gems Cutting and Polishing center established at Karimabad, Hunza, with the financial and moral support from Mr. Nasruddin Rupanni. AKRSP, Shia Imami Ismaili Council for Pakistan, Aga Khan Economic Planning and Karakoram Area Development Organization took the lead role in coordination while establishing the center. The main objective of this one year action research project is to train local women in gems cutting and polishing. The center is offering 6 months course now in gems cutting and polishing to about 12 local youth (8 women and 4 men). The community is very much pleased from the generosity and compassion of Nasrudin Rupani and give due credit to him he has fulfilled a dream.

This is the first ever training center established in Northern Areas in history and has become a big source; aspiration and hope for many people who would like to make their careers and economic destinies.  On of the characteristics of the Gems institute at Hunza include its state of art facilities working environment, administration and management – ever run such centers in the history. The roles of the organizations are also increasing with the passage of time. KADO will play its role in establishing, running and managing Gemology Institute at Hunza giving where as AKRSP will play its role in product and Market Development and also on Action Research in Northern Areas and Chitral by establishing research and business units. KADO will focus on to establish, develop and strengthen this center as a professional run Gem and Gemology Institute which regularly develops a cadre of experts in Gemology, Cutting and Polishing, Jewelry, and carving beside a small market research  and promotion of businesses within Hunza. This center will be the only platform in Northern Areas and Chitral which will impart trainings and capacity building as a regular institute or college.
