In order to take advantage of the growing opportunities offered by the information and communications revolution, KADO has embarked upon a vision to effectively and creatively use ICT for local development in this physically and economically isolated and marginalized mountainous region.
KADO, since the year 2000, is experimenting innovative ways of using ICT for local development. The major intervention in this regard were the establishment of village computer literacy centres, e-commerce, Karakoram Hunza Cyber Site, Mountain Institute for Computer Sciences, IDRC funded project as Information and Communication Technology for Rural Development (ICT4D), Women Vocational Trainings in six districts of Northern Areas, e-solutions and e-mandi. Based on these interventions, KADO received the membership of Global Knowledge Partnership (GK) a Global network of public, private and non-for-profit organizations working on the use of information technology for development. |
